Where in the world…
…did our summer go? It’s Fall and the students are back at University, Blas is getting ready to stock the store with new fall items, planning crafts shows and dreaming of future vacations. So in efforts to recap (as much as possible) in pictures: After Maker Faire we dyed a butt load of yarn in prep for sock summit….using our new Greener Dyes set. It was so easy using their dye book and my new SPIN DRYER (brilliant idea btw) thank you Shannon for suggesting Blas get one. It was a life saver on so many counts!

The only vaca this summer was a mini mini trip to Lake Tahoe…courtesy of Nick’s Carnelian Bay House. We love the beach.

my view most of the day….hiding out

We abused the auto timer on the camera when bored in the car…

Drifting and thrifting

Back home: went to a bonfire with Katy, Kevin and friends….Kaia helped dig the hole.

Taught some kids at Mission PL how to weave…

Taught wet felting….Blas is starting to lead the children art workshops! I’m very excited to move away from the lead role. He’s awesome with the kids.

We vended at Renegade with Yuki , Anthony and Akira (aka chibi chibi…)

Hung out with some of our favorite consignors: Eling, Shannon and Kim!

Who wouldn’t want to buy yarn from these lovely ladies…look at the coils on that skein!

We went to a fiber show and showed people how to needle felt…

There was weaving at the studio….

And then dyeing more yarn…yolo was promptly removed after the photo. Note: yarns were dyed and washed of kitty lovin:

Portland Highlights: Sock Summit of course…

Seeing Rachel and her new baby Hazel Rose. I think Rachel got pics of EVERY yarny celeb in the whole place. Check her blog for sightings….we were chained to our booth for the most part. Comparing Queen Bee bags with Karrie! There were QB bags everywhere, as Susan said “I know! It’s like our religion or something….” she was right. We ate at the Kennedy School with the Tactile ladies and Velma. I got to meet Blas’ childhood friend Marian and her two kids, very cute!

Burgerville made fast food taste sooo slow….blackberry shake, I miss you. Late night Voodoo Donuts were well worth the wait. Sorry no donut pictures…they were that good.

Crafty Wonderland was awesome:

Cathy and Torie are some of the best indie show organizers out there! It was great to be in one of their shows. Susan came by to say hello and shop. Cathy and Susan both recommended some great places to eat…we loved The Farm Cafe. Their chocolate souffle was not to be missed!

On the way out I caught some words of wisdom from an auto mechanic’s sign…sometimes I think we get caught up in every opportunity and I felt like we never stopped moving all summer! So the sign, as silly as it seems, really inspired us to commit to doing more local events, teaching more (especially kids!) growing the shop and doing less traveling. It’s good to take every opportunity handed to you, I learned that from several very wise mentors in college. But it’s also ok to know when to pass on something that may have very little return for our immediate business goals. Gut feelings are amazing sometimes….don’t ignore them.

90+ degrees and 7 hours of driving meant a stop at the Smith River for a much needed dip among tadpoles and baby trout…

We stopped and saw Nick in Arcata, visited his menagerie of animals, ate the freshest, yummiest crepes at Renata’s Creperie. Seriously, I usually avoid savory crepes at all cost. This was one place I would actually return. And order the bowl of hot chocolate too.

Nilly the cat who coos like a pigeon.

This cute little Bichon Frise which kept clapping it’s little paws together…apparently they’re hypoallergenic dogs since they don’t shed. I had no idea….they guy who owned it scores major babe points for sporting a cute fluffly dog around the neighborhood. Go figure.

We drove the 5 hours home, unloaded the uhaul and started planning for the store’s one year anniversary party…more posts soon about our fun end of summer bash! – Jamie

Looks like you had a bitchin’ summer. Gettin’ fancy with that new dyeing machine. You two are the best. KIT.
