Nuno Wet Felting, KTTG Series & Anniversary Sale

We hope that you’re enjoying your summer! Sorry if we missed a couple of you this past week at the store. We were at Sock Summit and Crafty Wonderland in Portland, Oregon. It was fun to meet new customers and talk shop with fellow vendors. Portland is a great town and we look forward to going back for leisure one day soon!  We wanted to tell you about upcoming classes:

Learn to Felt using the Nuno Technique – Guest Artist Workshop  SUNDAY AUGUST 16th 2009 11:00-1:00PM

Skill Level: No felting experience necessary
Age group: 12 and up
Class size: 4
Nuno-felting is a technique that combines fine wool with an open weave fabric, such as silk or cotton chiffon to create a thin, draping piece of felt that is flexible yet durable, especially suitable to wearables. In this class we will explore the technique using inexpensive tools (like bubble wrap!) and create a flat piece of fabric you can cut and sew and also a neckwarmer piece that can be worn with very little finishing.
About The Instructor
Shannon is a handspinner and feltmaker recently re-transplanted from the east coast where she taught workshops in southern VT and regularly peddled her wares at the local farmer’s market. Her passion for wool borders on obsession, but she doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

About The Instructor
Kira first learned the basics of crochet around age three and knitting around five. Her attention soon moved to cross stitch, sewing, and other crafty pursuits, then she re-taught herself to knit while in college. She studied theatrical costume design and worked as a costume designer in and around San Francisco for several years. The research she has done in historical clothing is a strong influence on her design sense, and many Kira K Designs patterns reference styles from the 1920s through the 1960s. Her designs tend toward garments with clean lines and intriguing details that are interesting to knit and easy to wear.  Her designs have been published in Knitty, Inside Crochet magazine, and the 2008 Stitch ‘n Bitch Page a Day Calendar.
